About

In early life, I was born in Gary, Indiana and grew up in Northwest Indiana with working-class parents. My mother was a union secretary for Ironworkers until she retired. My father retired as a union official for Industrial Painting in the IUPAT. I come from generations of blue-collar workers and proudly stand with unions today.

From an early age, playing fair and working hard became a deep understanding of moral living. I grew up with daily chores, helping neighbors while being active in school programs.

In addition to the responsibilities of career, marriage and motherhood, I played a role in the incorporation of our rural town, serving on the first council and planning/zoning commission. I was active in advocating for the need to grow our community. My background is in business and legal administration. Before becoming a full-time activist, I worked for the Asset Management Team of Global Operations at Cliffs Natural Resources, Inc. in the iron ore and coal mining industry.

Finding love early, we married young and raised our family in Alabama where my husband Fred, a retired Business Manager from the IUPAT in Birmingham and I have lived in Lake View, Tuscaloosa County for the last 29 years. We have three grown children, eight grandchildren and two cats.

I am a seasoned activist who has worked in the trenches of countless local and statewide campaigns while volunteering for causes close to my heart. Advocating for criminal justice reform, voting and women’s rights, fair and livable wages and access to affordable health care.

I understand the struggles of Alabamians and I believe I can serve them well if given the opportunity. Life’s experiences have qualified me. I know problems are local, therefore, the solutions should be too.
