Tereshia Huffman

Tereshia is a product of Birmingham City Schools and attended Ramsay High School. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama she had the honor of serving the people of State House District 60 as a Community Organizer. This experience sparked a career focused on improving the quality of life for citizens by managing social and racial justice initiatives, securing funding for public schools, managing community infrastructure improvement projects, and working with federal agencies to secure resources for underserved communities.

During her career, Huffman secured a grant that provided 350,000 meals for underserved children in Atlanta, was part of the team that improved access to public transportation for Atlanta residents, and led Dekalb County’s infrastructure projects. Huffman’s crowning achievement is advocating for abused and neglected children during her tenure at the Child Advocacy Center.

In December 2020, Huffman was appointed by the Birmingham City Council to the Birmingham Water Works Board. Her previous experience in managing Dekalb County’s water infrastructure initiative has given her the expertise required to effectively improve water infrastructure in Birmingham. As the youngest and only female board member she has been proactive and vocal about increasing women/minority participation in spaces of leadership, vendor contracts, and employment at the BWWB.

As state representative Tereshia will put people first in every vote she casts and every action she takes. Tereshia believes that we deserve representation that prioritizes initiatives that directly improve the quality of life for everyday people. The issues we face are not too big to overcome and, with your support, we can build a stronger, more resilient District 56.
