Hanu Karlapalem Sets April 4 Campaign Kickoff in House District 4 Race
Hanu Karlapalem, a Madison Democrat running for Alabama House District 4, has scheduled his campaign kickoff for April 4 in Madison as he begins his challenge to Rep. Parker Moore, R-Decatur, in the 2026 election.
Karlapalem’s launch event is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at the Best Western Plus Hotel on Madison Boulevard. His campaign said the event is free and open to the public. House District 4 includes parts of Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties.
Karlapalem has lived in Madison for 26 years and owns a small technology business, according to his campaign. He also holds a master’s degree in management information systems from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and has served as a life member and former second vice president of the Limestone County NAACP.
In announcing the kickoff, Karlapalem centered his campaign on lowering household costs, strengthening public schools and expanding access to health care. He said those issues form the basis of his message to voters in the district.
Karlapalem also described his campaign around three broader themes: economy first, people first and Constitution first. His campaign said he has been active in community and constituent advocacy on utility costs, public education and growth issues in North Alabama.
Moore, the Republican incumbent from Decatur, currently represents the district in the Alabama House. House members serve four-year terms, and all 105 seats are on the ballot in 2026.
The 2026 election calendar calls for party primaries on May 19, with the general election scheduled for Nov. 3. Karlapalem and Moore are listed as candidates for the District 4 race.
Campaign kickoff events are often used to introduce a candidate’s message, organize volunteers and begin public fundraising. For legislative candidates, they also offer an early chance to build visibility across districts that can span multiple counties and communities.
Karlapalem said he is presenting himself as a new option for District 4 voters. In campaign materials, he pointed to his community service, professional background and ties to North Alabama as part of that case.
District 4 voters will have several months before next year’s primary season fully takes shape, and public campaign events like Karlapalem’s kickoff often mark the beginning of a longer organizing effort before fundraising reports, endorsements and primary qualifying bring the race into sharper focus.
