Dr. Tyler Berryhill serves as the coroner and chief medicolegal death investigator for Madison county. He is responsible for administering the office of coroner and overseeing death investigation operations of the office. He has previously served as an assistant in the office, medicolegal death investigator, and chief deputy coroner prior to becoming the Madison County Coroner in 2019. He began his initial medicolegal death investigation/forensic sciences professional training program under the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner, followed by over 1,200 hours of additional professional training courses, throughout the years, in the areas of bloodstain pattern analysis, crime scene investigation, criminal investigations (general), foundations of courtroom testimony, forensic photography, homicide investigation, child and infant death investigation, mass fatality incident management, medicolegal death investigation, psychological autopsy protocols (suicide investigation assessment) as well as buried human remains & surface recovery training provided through the University of Tennessee's Forensic Anthropology Center ("The Body Farm"). He is board-certified in medicolegal death investigation and additionally serves as a forensic consultant in the areas of forensic toxicology, with former testimony presented to federal court, as well as bloodstain pattern analysis, with consultation services provided for law enforcement agencies in north Alabama.

​Academically, as an alumnus of Jefferson State College of Funeral Services and the University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences, he pursued higher education at the University of Florida's College of Medicine, Gainesville, Florida. During this time, he completed his graduate-level medical education with a specific focus on gerontology and age-related pathology. He was also afforded the opportunity to dual-enroll, completing a multi-year graduate-level study of forensic medicine & forensic toxicology, and continuing on with a graduate certificate specialization in a forensic death investigation. Dr. Berryhill continued doctoral studies, at Nova Southeastern University, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in public health epidemiology (a specialty which investigates patterns and causes of disease/injury in humans, to reduce/prevent said occurrences), with a specialized focus on infectious disease.
