A constitutional amendment to let Alabama lawmakers set court costs in Etowah County and dedicate the money to funding the county's public law library.
If passed, the Legislature could pass general or local laws to impose a trial tax or court cost on litigation filed in the circuit court of Etowah County (and a similar tax in the county court), up to a specified amount. The money collected from these costs would be used to establish, equip, maintain, and operate the Etowah County public law library, including paying library staff, or for other lawful purposes in Etowah County. An election would be held to approve the amendment under state election rules.
