Session
Regular Session 2010
Title
State employees under Merit System, voluntary furlough plan approved by State Personnel Department authorized, Sec. 36-26-26 am'd.; Act 2009-502, 2009 Reg. Sess. am'd.
Description

Existing law grants certain rights to Merit System employees when a state agency or appointing authority determines to lay off employees and prohibits laying off a Merit System employee if the state agency or appointing authority is employing a non-Merit System employee to perform similar duties. Also under existing law, there is no specific authority for the furlough of Merit System employees

This bill would also authorize a state department or appointing authority to implement a voluntary furlough program with the approval of the State Personnel Department; provided that such voluntary furlough plan is applicable to an entire department

To amend Section 36-26-26, Code of Alabama 1975, as amended by Act No. 2009-502, 2009 Regular Session (Acts 2009, p. 928), relating to furloughs of state employees, to establish terms of furloughs for Merit System employees.
