HB628 creates a Coffee County Sheriff’s Work Release Fund, lets the sheriff spend it to improve local law enforcement, and sets audit and transfer rules.
The sheriff may spend funds in the Sheriff's Work Release Fund for the betterment of law enforcement in Coffee County, at the sheriff's discretion. The sheriff must establish the fund in a Coffee County bank, deposit all related funds into it, and maintain accounts for audit by the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, with a copy of the audit provided within 30 days. Any money currently in the existing Work Release Fund must be transferred into the new fund. The act also includes standard severability, repeal of conflicting laws, and immediate effectiveness once approved by the Governor.
