HB771 adds an extra tobacco tax for Talladega County and spells out exactly how the money will be distributed to local programs, volunteers, and the jail fund.
It amends Section 7 of Act 90-424 (1990) to authorize an additional Talladega County tobacco tax. After deducting up to 5% for collection, the remaining proceeds go to the Talladega County Commission for distribution: $15,000 to the Talladega County Volunteer Program (or successor); $25,000 to the North Talladega Association for Retarded Citizens; $25,000 to the South Talladega Association for Retarded Citizens; and the rest split with 50% to certified volunteer fire departments and rescue squads (divided equally) and 50% deposited in the county general fund for a new jail. The act becomes effective immediately after the governor approves it.
