Consumers and Consumer Protection, debt collection or agencies, verify telephone number with telephone carrier of person owing the uncollected debt before contact, remedies

<p class="bill_description"> Under existing law, there is no requirement that a collection agency or debt collector verify the telephone number with the telephone carrier ensuring the person contacted is the person owing the uncollected debt</p><p class="bill_description"> This bill would make such requirement and would provide for remedies</p><p class="bill_entitled_an_act"> Relating to consumer protection; to require debt collectors or agencies to verify the telephone number with the telephone carrier of the person owing the uncollected debt before contact is made; and to provide remedies. </p>
