- Title
- Alabama Foreign-Country Money Judgments Recognition Act, to provide a statutory method whereby Alabama courts legally recognize foreign judgments
- Description
Under current Alabama law, there is no statutory framework for the recognition of foreign-country money judgments. Instead, recognition is governed under common law by the doctrine of comity.
This bill would provide for the Alabama Uniform Foreign-Country Money Judgment Act.
This bill would codify the doctrine of comity. The bill would provide a court procedure for the enforcement of foreign-country money judgments; address burdens of proof of the parties; revise the grounds for denying recognition of foreign-country money judgments; and establish a statute of limitations for recognition actions.
