Title

Description

This bill would change certain absentee voting deadlines concerning the qualification and certification of candidates running for office, printing and distribution of ballots, and contesting nominations in order to facilitate compliance with state and federal law pertaining to individuals voting by absentee ballot pursuant to the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, 42 U.S.C. 1973ff.

This bill would also allow the use of federal write-in absentee ballots by overseas voters under certain circumstances.

Relating to absentee voting laws; to amend Sections 17-6-21, 17-9-3, 17-9-51, 17-11-5, 17-11-12, 17-11-18, 17-13-5, 17-13-18, 17-13-22, 17-13-23, 17-13-81, 17-13-82, 17-13-85, and 17-13-86, Code of Alabama 1975, to change certain election deadlines to facilitate compliance with the federal Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, 42 U.S.C. 1973ff; and to add Section 17-11-43.1 to the Code of Alabama 1975, to allow the use of federal write-in absentee ballots by overseas voters under certain circumstances.
