Oak Grove could allow Sunday alcohol sales after 1:00 p.m. if residents vote yes and the city approves rules for who can sell and whether purchases can be for off-site consumption.
The bill applies only in Oak Grove, Talladega County. It lets the city hold a referendum to decide whether to permit Sunday sales after 1:00 p.m. If voters approve, the city council may pass ordinances to permit sale and consumption on Sundays after 1:00 p.m. by properly licensed retailers and regulate which businesses may sell and whether off-premises consumption is allowed. The referendum costs are paid by the city, and if the initial vote fails, no second referendum can be held within 12 months. The act takes effect immediately after governor approval.
