COMMENDING SENATOR HARRI ANNE SMITH FOR
DISTINGUISHED LEGISLATIVE SERVICE.
WHEREAS, we note with utmost admiration and
appreciation the distinguished service of our friend and
colleague, Senator Harri Anne Smith, to the citizens of Senate
District 29, in Dale, Geneva, and Houston Counties, since
being elected to the Senate in 1998; prior to being elected to
the Senate, she served as a member of the Slocomb City Council
and as the Mayor of Slocomb; and
WHEREAS, Senator Smith has been actively involved in
the legislative process through her important leadership and
committee assignments including: Agriculture, Conservation and
Forestry, County and Municipal Government, Finance and
Taxation Education, Health and Human Services, and Veterans
and Military Affairs; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Slocomb, Senator Smith earned
a Bachelor's degree from Troy State University; Senator Smith
and her husband, Charlie, are members of the First Baptist
Church of Slocomb; and

WHEREAS, committed to community and business
development, Senator Smith has served in many leadership roles
and charitable organizations, including the United Way,
Jaycees, Southeast Alabama Regional Council on Aging, and the
Organ Transplants of Alabama; she has received numerous
recognitions and awards for her service, including being named
the Elected Public Official of the Year 2002, the 1999 Woman
of the Year by the City of Slocomb, 2002 Alumni of the Year by
Troy State University Dothan, and Outstanding Citizen of the
Decade by the Slocomb City Council; and
WHEREAS, Senator Smith has worked tirelessly on
behalf of the citizens of Alabama while serving in the Alabama
Senate and all who have served with her will always remember
her dedication and inspiring service; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we heartily commend Senator
Harri Anne Smith for her outstanding service to the people of
Senate District 29 and the State of Alabama and for her
invaluable contributions to this body for the past 20 years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
resolution will be presented to Senator Harri Anne Smith with
our highest esteem and appreciation, as well as sincere best
wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
