COMMENDING SENATOR SLADE BLACKWELL FOR DISTINGUISHED
LEGISLATIVE SERVICE.
WHEREAS, we note with utmost admiration and
appreciation the distinguished service of our friend and
colleague, Senator Mark Slade Blackwell, to the citizens of
Senate District 15, in Jefferson, Shelby, and Talladega
Counties, since being elected in November 2010; and
WHEREAS, Senator Blackwell has been actively
involved in the legislative process through his important
leadership and committee assignments including: Banking and
Insurance, Job Creation and Economic Development,
Confirmations, Finance and Taxation Education, Health and
Human Services, Local Legislation Jefferson County, and Local
Legislation Shelby County; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Birmingham, Senator Blackwell
graduated from the University of Montevallo, where he was a
member of the basketball team; he serves on the board for the
Lakeshore Foundation, the Birmingham History Center, the
Pinson Education Foundation, the Birmingham Golf Association,

and the Shelby Arts Council; he is involved in the Birmingham
Business Alliance and several chambers of commerce; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, Senator Blackwell opened his own
company, Inkana Development, a fully integrated real estate
company specializing in real estate and development
structuring for complex projects, partnerships, and joint
ventures in the health care and infrastructure industries; and
WHEREAS, Senator Slade Blackwell and his wife, Dr.
Sally Salter, have three children, twin sons, Colby and Grant,
and daughter, Hagen; they are members of Covenant Presbyterian
Church; and
WHEREAS, Senator Slade Blackwell has worked
tirelessly on behalf of the citizens of Alabama while serving
in the Alabama Senate and all who have served with him will
always remember his dedication and inspiring service; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE, BOTH HOUSES
THEREOF CONCURRING, That we heartily commend Senator Blackwell
for his outstanding service to the people of Senate District
nd the State of Alabama and for his invaluable
contributions to this body for the past eight years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
resolution will be presented to Senator Blackwell with our
highest esteem and appreciation, as well as sincere best
wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
