ENROLLED, SJR135,
RECOGNIZING THE FIRST FULL WEEKEND FOLLOWING THE
FIRST FRIDAY IN AUGUST AS DAYS OF PRAYER OVER ALABAMA
STUDENTS.
WHEREAS, the school students of this great state are
our single greatest resource and in coming years will assume
leadership positions in this state, as well as responsibility
for the advancement of our society; and
WHEREAS, today's students face extreme challenges,
such as peer pressure to use drugs and alcohol, negative
influences in the media, school violence and gang activities,
and low self-esteem; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that prayer be offered
for our schools, teachers, and administrators for wisdom and
knowledge as they impart to the students of our state the
great lessons of life and morality, and the education that
each student deserves; and
WHEREAS, the residents of this state are encouraged
to give thanks for our students and pray for protection,
guidance, and peace, and for opportunities and blessings on
the students of Alabama; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby recognize the first
full weekend following the first Friday in August each year as
Days of Prayer for Alabama's Students and call upon the
citizens of this state, in accordance with their own faith and
consciences, to pray, meditate, or otherwise reflect upon the
students of this state, as well as their teachers,
administrators, and schools.
