COMMENDING MAJOR CHARLES A. REIDY FOR EXTRAORDINARY
SERVICE TO THE CIVIL AIR PATROL.
WHEREAS, we take great pride and pleasure in
commending Major Charles A. Reidy for extraordinary service to
the Civil Air Patrol; and
WHEREAS, Major Charles A. Reidy embarked upon his
distinguished service with the Civil Air Patrol in May 1955 as
a cadet member of Squadron 401 in Pennsylvania Wing and
obtained his Ranger Ground Team rating at the PA Hawk Mountain
Training Facility in 1958; he engaged in 14 Search and Rescue
missions, including one airliner, during his six years of
membership in that squadron; and
WHEREAS, Major Charles A. Reidy joined the United
States Air Force in 1962 and completed requirements at the
USAF aircraft mechanic school; he was initially assigned to
the 43rd Organizational Maintenance Squadron (OMS) as a ground
crew member on the B-58 Hustler as part of the Strategic Air
Command (SAC); after completing a six-year tour with the
Hustler, he continued to serve in both stateside and overseas
assignments including five years spent serving as a KC-135

Crew Chief, a flight controller, and a tanker alert
supervisor; and
WHEREAS, he cross trained to become a C-141 Flight
Engineer in 1978 and retired from the United States Air Force
as a Master Sergeant after 22 and a half years of active duty;
in retirement, he continued to serve as an Air Force Junior
ROTC Instructor, a position he held until his second
retirement in 2004 after 20 years of service; in 2011, he
joined the Gadsden Composite Squadron (AL-075) of the Civil
Air Patrol, where he held numerous positions including
Aerospace Education Officer, Leadership Officer, and Deputy
Commander for Cadets and subsequently rose to the position of
Squadron Commander; in addition, he established and oversaw
the Alabama Wing Color Guard Academy for three years; and
WHEREAS, Major Charles A. Reidy currently serves as
a mission aircrew member for the Pell City Squadron (AL-118)
and is a qualified Mission Scanner and Observer; he has earned
numerous awards and decorations from the United States Air
Force and Civil Air Patrol including the USAF Meritorious
Service Award, AF Commendations and Achievement Medals, CAP
Commander's Commendation, two AFJROTC Instructor of the Year
Awards, and many encampment assignments, among others; he and
his wife, the former Iva Sue Daugherty of Oxford, Alabama,
reside in Weaver, Alabama, and have one son, two daughters,
and one granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, through the years, Major Charles A. Reidy
has earned widespread respect for the commitment and
capability he brought to every challenge while compiling an
outstanding record of leadership; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Major Charles A. Reidy is
commended for extraordinary service to the Civil Air Patrol,
and this resolution is offered in highest tribute and deepest
appreciation on behalf of the citizens of the State of
Alabama.
