RECOGNIZING SENATOR QUINTON ROSS FOR PROFESSIONAL
SERVICE TO THE ALABAMA SENATE.
WHEREAS, it is a tremendous privilege to recognize
Senator Quinton T. Ross, Jr., for his exceptional record of
professional excellence and service to the citizens of Alabama
during his 15 years in the Alabama Senate; and
WHEREAS, one of seven African-American members of
the Senate, Senator Ross was the first African-American male
to serve as Senate Minority Leader and he was the first
Minority Leader elected to a four-year term; and
WHEREAS, while serving in the Senate, Senator Ross
served on numerous committees including, Banking and
Insurance, Confirmation, County and Municipal Government,
Finance and Taxation, Education, Transportation and Energy,
Military Affairs, and as vice chair of Education Youth
Affairs; and
WHEREAS, before his selection as the 15th President
of Alabama State University, Senator Ross was an educator and
administrator and had a profound impact on countless lives
through his selfless service; and

WHEREAS, Senator Ross has received numerous awards
for his professional achievements and public service
including: Montgomery Advertiser's 2003 King Spirit Award;
2005 Dare to Make a Difference Award; 2005 Young Legend Award;
2009 Alabama School Board Association's Power of One Award;
2012 Alabama Adult Education Director's Association Champion
Award; 2016 Beloved Community Award presented by Alabama State
University Friends of the Theater; and the 2017 Business
Champion Award for the Business Council of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, through the years, Senator Ross has earned
widespread admiration and respect for his tireless dedication
and exceptional abilities; he has set the bar high for
professionalism and service within the Alabama Senate, the
education system, and throughout the state as a public
servant; he is truly deserving of special commendation and
praise; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Senator Quinton T. Ross, Jr.,
is highly honored and commended, and this resolution is
offered to him in deepest admiration and appreciation for his
service to the citizens of Alabama, as well as with sincere
best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
