HJR112 190583-1 By Representatives Davis, Sessions and Weaver RFD: Rules First Read: 25-JAN-18 190583-1:n:01/25/2018:KMS/th LSA2018-519 RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 6, 2018, AS ENERGY DAY IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA. WHEREAS, the energy sector plays a vital role in Alabama and the United States; and WHEREAS, the industries that make up Alabama's energy sector include electricity production and distribution, natural gas production and distribution, coal mining, biomass, solar power, nuclear power, coalbed methane, cogeneration, biofuels, liquid natural gas, offshore oil production, hydroelectric power, petroleum production and distribution, wind power, landfill gas, and wood waste; and WHEREAS, as the Energy Institute of Alabama is combining Alabama's research and development assets with the state's natural resources to strengthen the energy industry, to serve consumers, and the meet demands and create economic growth for Alabama by promoting public policies that ensure reliable, affordable, and clean energy for all Alabamians; and WHEREAS, the total economic impact of Alabama's energy industry is $14.22 billion; and WHEREAS, the total tax revenue provided by Alabama's energy sector is $385 million; and WHEREAS, the energy industry generates 124,000 jobs in Alabama; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That support should be given to promote reliable, affordable, and clean energy to help grow Alabama's economy, create high paying jobs, and build public support for Alabama's energy industry. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the energy industry is an essential component driving Alabama's economy. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we do hereby commend the energy industry and its positive impact on the State of Alabama. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That February 6, 2018, is hereby recognized as Alabama Energy Day.
