HJR 131 - Enrolled - PDF HJR131 190838-2 By Representatives McCutcheon, Greer, Crawford, Collins, Nordgren, Ball, Williams (P), Hall, Daniels, Johnson (K), Whorton (R), Shedd, Henry and Sanderford RFD: Rules First Read: 01-FEB-18 HJR131 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution, HONORING ALL FIRST RESPONDERS IN ALL CITIES, COMMUNITIES AND TOWNSHIPS IN LIMESTONE, MADISON, AND MORGAN COUNTIES. WHEREAS, we take great pride in recognizing the "Honoring Our Heroes" program, a salute to Alabamians residing, working, or volunteering as first responders, including firefighters, law enforcement, rescue squads, and emergency medical personnel in Limestone, Madison, and Morgan Counties, who have served or continue to serve by protecting Alabama citizens; and WHEREAS, the ASF Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1982 at the request of the United States Olympic Committee, and founder of the Alabama State Games, held its first Olympic-style games in 1983 and will celebrate its 36th Anniversary in 2018; while awarding more than $293,000 in academic scholarships, the organization instills ethical values with a main focus on health, academics, athletics, and good citizenship, while encouraging patriotic pride; and WHEREAS, in a continuing effort to honor all first responders in Limestone, Madison, and Morgan Counties, the ASF Foundation, and the Alabama Legislature are partnering to HJR131 express their profound appreciation and gratitude on First Responder's Day, June 8, 2018; this occasion coincides with the Opening Day of the 2018 Alabama State Games XXXVI; a special ASF Foundation Honoring Our Heroes Distinguished Service Medal will be presented to eligible first responders in attendance at the Opening Ceremony; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate that all Alabamians recognize and commend the tremendous services performed by first responders who demonstrate daily bravery for providing safety for all residents of the state; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That on behalf of all citizens of our great state, we join the ASF Foundation in Limestone, Madison, and Morgan Counties, in recognizing and honoring Alabamians residing, working, or volunteering as first responders, including firefighters, law enforcement, rescue squads, and emergency medical personnel in Limestone, Madison, and Morgan Counties, who have served or continue to serve by protecting Alabama citizens.
