HJR280 192515-2 By Representatives Sanderford, Rowe and Baker RFD: Rules First Read: 01-MAR-18 HJR280 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution, COMMENDING DEPUTY CHRIS ROGERS OF THE TALLADEGA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AS A NOMINEE FOR THE 2018 ALABAMA LEGISLATIVE MEDAL OF HONOR FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT. WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that we recognize Deputy Chris Rogers of the Talladega County Sheriff's Office as a nominee for the 2018 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, on May 12, 2017, while on duty with the Talladega County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Chris Rogers was dispatched to a Domestic Violence call on Airport Road in Oxford; upon his arrival, he was advised by a witness that the suspect and the victim were inside the residence and the suspect was armed with a gun; and WHEREAS, as Deputy Rogers entered the residence he found that the suspect was in fact armed and was waving the gun around and pointing the gun at the victim; after giving the suspect verbal commands to drop his weapon, the suspect continued to wave the gun and make threats to shoot the victim; and HJR280 WHEREAS, the suspect then pointed the gun back at the victim forcing Deputy Rogers to fire his service weapon, ultimately disabling the suspect; and WHEREAS, due to Deputy Rogers' bravery, quick action, and good Police work, there is no doubt that he saved lives on that day; and WHEREAS, Deputy Rogers has exceeded the expectations of his duties as a deputy with the Talladega County Sheriff's Office; his split-second decision saved lives; he strives daily to make a positive impact upon the lives of others; and WHEREAS, Deputy Rogers epitomizes the qualities of those who serve and protect, and he is truly deserving of this distinguished nomination for the Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we do hereby recognize and honor Deputy Chris Rogers as a nominee for the 2018 Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement and direct that he receive a copy of this resolution as evidence of our admiration and esteem.
