HJR293 192493-2 By Representatives Sanderford, Baker and Rowe RFD: Rules First Read: 01-MAR-18 HJR293 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution, COMMENDING DEPUTY JOSEPH WORDELL OF THE JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND HIS K-9 PARTNER DIESEL AS NOMINEES FOR THE 2018 ALABAMA LEGISLATIVE MEDAL OF HONOR FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT. WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that we recognize Deputy Joseph Wordell of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and his K-9 partner Diesel as nominees for the 2018 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, in 2017, Deputy Joseph Wordell and Diesel led in the number of dangerous fugitives successfully tracked, drug seizures, and recovery of an explosive device; they were deployed 24 times for fleeing suspects and located 13 of those suspects, and they were deployed 31 times for narcotics searches and located drugs 24 of those times; they also discovered materials used for making a pipe bomb in a house; and WHEREAS, without a moment's hesitation, Deputy Wordell and Diesel placed themselves in the line of peril and captured dangerous fugitives, confiscated harmful drugs, and located a potentially lethal explosive device; and HJR293 WHEREAS, Deputy Joseph Wordell and Diesel demonstrated immense courage, diligence, and quick response in life-threatening situations; their loyalty and unwavering commitment to protect and serve the residents of Jefferson County were evidenced through their willingness to make the quick and proper response in order to protect the lives of others; and WHEREAS, Deputy Joseph Wordell and Diesel epitomize the qualities of those who serve and protect, and they are truly deserving of this distinguished nomination for the Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we hereby recognize and honor Deputy Joseph Wordell and Diesel as nominees for the 2018 Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement and direct that they receive a copy of this resolution as evidence of our admiration and esteem.
