WILLIAM JEFFERSON TERRY. WHEREAS, with utmost reverence and respect, we posthumously honor the inspiring life and legacy of Dr. William Jefferson Terry of Mobile, Alabama, on the anniversary of his death on July 7, 2015; and WHEREAS, a nationally known physician, Dr. William Jefferson Terry had the utmost distinction of being the first pediatric urologist in the State of Alabama; and WHEREAS, born in Mobile, Alabama, Dr. Terry graduated cum laude from The University of Alabama and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; he obtained his M.D. from The University of Alabama School of Medicine and served as an intern and resident at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and as a resident and chief resident in urology at The University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham; he completed a fellowship in pediatric urology at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston; and WHEREAS, among his numerous accolades were the 2007 Garber Galbraith Medical Political Service Award and the 2010 Distinguished Service Award presented by The University of Alabama Medical Alumni Association, the 2009 John McGehee Excellence as a Teacher Award presented by the University of South Alabama Department of Internal Medicine, and the Paul W. Burleson Award presented by the Medical Association of the State of Alabama; and WHEREAS, Dr. Terry contributed expert guidance and leadership to physician organizations at the county, state, and national levels; he was a delegate to the American Medical Association for 20 years, a member of the AMA Council on Medical Service, and chair of the Alabama delegation to the AMA for seven years; and WHEREAS, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a faithful and devoted member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, through the years, Dr. William Jefferson Terry earned widespread admiration and respect for his tireless dedication and exceptional abilities; it is a tremendous privilege to posthumously highlight the achievements of such a remarkable individual as Dr. William Jefferson Terry; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Dr. William Jefferson Terry is hereby posthumously honored and commended, and it is directed that his family shall receive a copy of this resolution in highest tribute to his legacy.
