MOURNING THE DEATH OF R. E. STANLEY.
WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
death on January 28, 2018, of Mr. R. E. Stanley of Gadsden,
Alabama, at the age of 84 years; and
WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
where he was highly regarded; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley proudly served his country in
the United States Navy aboard the USS Piedmont in the Pacific
Theatre; after being discharged from the Navy, he returned to
work with Goodyear and retired after 43 years; and
WHEREAS, he was the first president of Gadsden High
School Parents Athletic Club; he served as an officer for many
years in American League Little League and Litchfield High
School Parents Athletic Club; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley was a 32nd Degree Mason through
the Glencoe Masonic Chapter; and
WHEREAS, he was a faithful and dedicated member of
Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents,
Paul and Sallie Stanley; sister, Billie Stanley Burgett; and
WHEREAS, survivors include his beloved wife of 65
years, Mary Burgett Stanley; sons, Lyle Stanley (Karen) and
Tommy Stanley (Tracey); daughter, Marisa Wofford (Steve);
grandchildren, Kaci Logan (Greg), Lexie Stanley, Tyler
Stanley, Sam Wofford, and Adam Wofford; great-grandchildren,
Kolee Marie Logan and Rilynn Kate Logan; brother, Max Stanley;
sister, Carolyn Stanley Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews,
and cousins; and
WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
missed, the memory of Mr. Stanley will be cherished in the
hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mr. R. E.
Stanley is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is
offered in tribute to his life and with heartfelt sympathy to
his family, whose grief is shared by many.
