HR199 191695-1 By Representative Treadaway RFD: First Read: 15-FEB-18 191695-1:n:02/14/2018:JEC/jec LRS2018-875 COMMENDING GRAYSON PHILLIPS ON BEING NAMED A TOP YOUTH VOLUNTEER OF 2018 BY THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS. WHEREAS, heartiest congratulations are extended to Grayson Phillips of Gardendale, Alabama, on being named a top youth volunteer of 2018 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and WHEREAS, created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are designed to recognize American youth who have performed outstanding community service; and WHEREAS, Grayson Phillips, an accomplished senior at Essential Church School, has impacted countless lives through his noble volunteer work; his altruistic actions have included organizing a fishing tournament and a fundraising dinner/auction to provide seven children and young adults with disabilities with all-terrain power wheelchairs that allow them to safely navigate the great outdoors with their peers; his own battle with spina bifida gave him perspective on the project; and WHEREAS, demonstrating initiative, creativity, and vision, Grayson Phillips filled an important need in the community, involving professionals and volunteers, and performed a service to benefit students, their parents, and other residents; and WHEREAS, Grayson Phillips is a superb representative of the finest of Alabama youth, and it is hoped that his example will serve as an inspiration for others whose talents would be welcomed by their communities; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That with appreciation for his community spirit, we applaud Grayson Phillips on being named a top youth volunteer of 2018 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, and by copy of this resolution, we offer encouragement for future endeavors.
