MOURNING THE DEATH OF CARRIE MAE JOHNSON.
WHEREAS, we deeply regret to learn of the death of
Carrie Mae Johnson, a lifelong resident of Choctaw County,
Alabama, on February 11, 2018, and we uplift her legacy with
utmost reverence and respect; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Carrie Mae Johnson leaves a
void in the lives of her loving family, many friends, and the
entire community, where she was highly regarded; and
WHEREAS, Carrie Mae Johnson was born to the union of
James and Iola DeBruce Harrison on May 5, 1928; at an early
age, she professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and
joined The Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she
served as superintendent, Sunday School teacher, secretary,
Director of Youth Fellowship, and Director of Christian
Education and engaged in various music ministries; and
WHEREAS, Carrie Mae Johnson graduated from Choctaw
County Training School in Lisman, Alabama, and earned her
Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from A and
M University in Normal, Alabama; she earned her Master's
Degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education
from The University of West Alabama in Livingston, Alabama,
and a Master's Degree in Psychometry from the University of
Southern Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Carrie Mae Johnson cultivated an
exceptional career in education as a teacher and
administrator; civically involved, she served as Vice Chair of
the Choctaw County Democratic Executive Committee and Chair of
the Department of Human Resources Board; in 2009, she was
inducted into the Alabama Hall of Fame at Auburn University in
Montgomery, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, survivors include her four children, Mary
Ann Knott-Easley, Eddie Johnson, Jr., Victor Johnson, and
Anthony Steven Johnson; nine grandchildren, two of whom she
reared; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of devoted
nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends; she was preceded in
death by her husband, three children, and five siblings; and
WHEREAS, Carrie Mae Johnson was a valued member of
the community; although her presence was greatly missed, her
memory is cherished in the hearts and minds of all those who
were fortunate enough to know her; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That while grieving the death of
Carrie Mae Johnson, we are extremely grateful for her abundant
life, and we offer this resolution in highest tribute to her
legacy, as well as with heartfelt sympathy to her family and
friends.
