RECOGNIZING THE DORCAS ART AND SOCIAL CLUB ON THE
ANNISTON CHAPTER'S CELEBRATION OF THE ALABAMA'S ASSOCIATION OF
WOMEN CLUBS, INC., AND YOUTH AFFILIATES' "KNOW YOUR STATE"
INITIATIVE.
WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
presented to the Dorcas Art and Social Club on the Anniston
Chapter's Celebration of The Alabama's Association of Women
Clubs, Inc., and Youth Affiliates' "Know Your State"
initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama Association of Women Clubs,
Inc., and Youth Affiliates' "Know Your State" initiative
uplifts the compelling history, extraordinary achievements,
and significant contributions of its club affiliates and women
members statewide; and
WHEREAS, "Know Your State" activities are held
around March 8, 2018, to correlate with Margaret Murray
Washington's birthday; Margaret Murray Washington (March 9,
1865-June 4, 1925) served as the renowned principal of
Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, now Tuskegee
University, and was the third wife of Booker T. Washington and
an inductee of the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame; she was a
staunch advocate for African American women who advanced
society in a myriad of ways; and
WHEREAS, the Dorcas Art and Social Club Anniston
Chapter's Celebration of Alabama's Association of Women Clubs,
Inc., and Youth Affiliates' "Know Your State" Initiative will
be held at Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church on
March 18, 2018; the notable theme is "Nevertheless She
Persisted: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of
Discrimination Against Women;" the worthy honorees are social
and saving clubs, sororities, and women pioneers in education,
medicine, law, military, law enforcement, and various other
fields; and
WHEREAS, the Anniston Chapter of the Dorcas Art and
Social Club personifies the motto of Alabama's Association of
Women Clubs, Inc., and National Association of Women Clubs,
Inc., which is "Lifting as we Climb," a tribute to its members
unwavering commitment to excellence in improving their
communities and aiding the less fortunate; it is a tremendous
privilege to honor an organization comprised of such
remarkable, altruistic, and strong women during Women's
History Month; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Anniston Chapter of the
Dorcas Art and Social Club is highly honored and commended,
and this resolution is offered to its leadership and members
in deepest admiration and appreciation for their immeasurable
service, as well as with sincere best wishes for continued
success in all future endeavors.
