HR440 193472-1 By Representative Sanderford RFD: First Read: 20-MAR-18 193472-1:n:03/16/2018:JEC/jec LSA2018-1340 MOURNING THE DEATH OF VERNON E. CRAMER. WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the death on March 7, 2018, of Vernon E. Cramer at the age of 88 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cramer was born in Huntsville, Alabama, September 26, 1929, to Charles P. Cramer and Norma Eaton Cramer; he graduated from Huntsville High School in 1947; attended Harding University in Searcy, Arizona, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville; and WHEREAS, Vernon E. Cramer served two tours of duty in the United States Army with the 5th Infantry Division and the 501st Air Defense Detachment; he served 10 months in combat with Headquaters Battery, I Corps Field Artillery in the Korean Conflict from January to October 1951; and WHEREAS, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two C21 Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of South Korea Commendation Medal, the Republic of South Korea War Service Medal, and the Special Commendation Medal from the people of the Republic of South Korea; he was employed with the Department of the Army (U.S. Army Missile Command) in November 1952 where he remained until his retirement in December 1984; and WHEREAS, upon his retirement from the military, he earned his Real Estate Broker license and enjoyed 17 years in residential and commercial sales, property management, and land development; he was a member of the Mayfair Church of Christ, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Korean War Veterans Association; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cramer loved golf and all sports; he was a member of the Huntsville Quarterback Club, the Red Elephant Club, and a lifelong supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cramer was predeceased by his parents; brother, Carl P. Cramer; and sister, Doris Sue Cramer; survivors include his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Eva Honey Cramer; son, Vernon Kent Cramer (Tracy); daughter, Kristi Cramer Martin (Greg); grandson, Thomas Young Martin, III, granddaughter, Cramer Hart Martin; brother, Robert E. Cramer, Sr., (Mazzie) and host of other relatives and friends; and WHEREAS, the passing of Mr. Vernon E. Cramer leaves a void in the lives of his loving family, many friends, and the entire community, where he was highly regarded; his presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mr. Vernon E. Cramer is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is offered in highest tribute to his life, along with heartfelt sympathy to his grieving family.
