HR47 189659-1 By Representative Wood RFD: Rules First Read: 11-JAN-18 189659-1:n:01/10/2018:DSM/th LSA2018-180 URGING THE STATE OF ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON HIGHWAY 431 IN ALEXANDRIA. WHEREAS, many residents of the community of Alexandria, Alabama, have expressed concern about the number of accidents, including fatalities, on United States Highway 431 from Post Oak Road south to the intersection of Bynum Leatherwood Road; and WHEREAS, whenever possible, it is incumbent upon the state to improve driving conditions to protect the safety of motorists and pedestrians on the highways within Alabama; and WHEREAS, the area of Highway 431 in Alexandria between Post Oak Road and Bynum Leatherwood Road is congested with businesses and churches and frequently is the location of speed-related accidents; and WHEREAS, community residents have complained of unsafe and hazardous conditions along Highway 431 in this area in Alexandria and seek support to reduce the dangers of travelling this thoroughfare, including reduction of the speed limit by at least 10 miles per hour; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the State Department of Transportation is urged to review the travel conditions of United States Highway 431 from Post Oak Road south to the intersection of Bynum Leatherwood Road in Alexandria, consider implementing safer alternatives to travel conditions along this route, and specifically, to reduce the speed limit by at least 10 miles per hour. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be provided to the Alabama State Department of Transportation so that they are informed of our concerns regarding this matter and our support to improving the safety of this highway in Alabama.
