HR482 193826-1 By Representative Shedd RFD: First Read: 22-MAR-18 193826-1:n:03/22/2018:DSM/th LSA2018-1493 URGING COUNTY OFFICIALS TO DESIGNATE ONE PERSON IN EACH COUNTY AS A CONTACT REGARDING BROADBAND ISSUES. WHEREAS, the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act, Senate Bill 149, was passed on March 20, 2018; it is designed to encourage accelerated private investment in broadband infrastructure to increase the availability of high-speed broadband services to unserved rural areas in Alabama; and WHEREAS, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) will establish and administer the broadband accessibility grant program and report progress toward increased access to broadband services; and WHEREAS, to promote and implement this program, communication between ADECA and local governing entities is critical; one point of contact in each county will improve continuity and efficiency; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the county commission of each county in Alabama is encouraged to appoint a single point of contact for purposes of communicating and coordinating broadband issues with ADECA. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that each county shall notify ADECA of the name of the county broadband contact within 60 days after the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act becomes law.
