COMMENDING PERCY HARRIS ON BEING NAMED 2017 CITIZEN
OF THE YEAR BY SOUTHWEST MOBILE COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE .
WHEREAS, highest commendations and honors are herein
presented to Mr. Percy Harris on his selection as 2017
SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harris joined the City of Mobile Fire
and Rescue in 1987 and has been active with the Fire
Department for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, his first outreach with the Fire Department
resulted in his raising $2,000 in contributions for Muscular
Dystrophy and Jerry's Kids; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership, his team won the
"Golden Axe Award" two years In a row; the award is given to
the Fire Department that collects the most money in the state;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harris has been involved with THE Boy
Scouts Troop 600 at Aimwell Baptist Church for many years; his
troop has produced seven Eagle Scouts; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the Mobile
Fire Department, Mr. Harris serves as Associate Pastor of
Aimwell Baptist Church, works with the American Red Cross,
where he is a board member, Catholic Social Services, Heroes
Helping Heroes, the Salvation Army Community Emergency
Response Team, and Crisis Intervention Center; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harris, who attended Alabama
International Seminary, is a Master Chaplain responsible for
training and mentoring Chaplains across the state; and
WHEREAS, his most recent endeavor has been assisting
"Heroes Helping Heroes" to raise funds for Breast Cancer
research at the Mitchell Center; this project supports and
provides resources for free exams and treatment, in addition
to providing support for Project Faith, American Cancer
Society, Springhill Memorial Breast Cancer Center, and
Providence Hospital "Breast Friends"; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harris is certain that God placed him
here on earth to help others and that's his job and his
purpose; now thereforE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That in recognition and gratitude
for outstanding service to the citizens of Mobile, and upon
receipt of the 2017 SouthWest Mobile County Chamber of
Commerce Citizen of the Year Award, we hereby most highly
honor and commend Mrs. Percy Harris to whom a copy of this
resolution shall be provided with tribute and esteem.
