HR63 189663-2 By Representative Ford RFD: First Read: 16-JAN-18 189663-2:n:01/11/2018:JEC/jec LSA2018-215 MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF MR. ELI DENSON ADKINS. WHEREAS, we deeply regret to learn of the death of Mr. Eli Denson Adkins of Gadsden, Alabama, on January 3, 2018, at 80 years of age, and we uplift his legacy with utmost reverence and respect; and WHEREAS, the passing of Mr. Eli Denson Adkins leaves a void in the lives of his loving family, many friends, and the entire community, where he was highly regarded; and WHEREAS, Mr. Eli Denson Adkins was born August 2, 1937, in Goree, Texas, and grew up in Plainview, Texas; he graduated from Plainview High School in 1955; he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 until 1959; he returned home and married his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Donna Gail Billington in 1959; and WHEREAS, Mr. Adkins studied court reporting at Lipperts Business College; he served as court reporter in Marshall County for about five years; he moved to Etowah County in the late 1960s and enjoyed a long, successful career as a court reporter for the Honorable James B. Waid, the Honorable William Cardwell, and the Honorable Will Clay; and WHEREAS, Mr. Adkins never met a stranger and greeted friends and family with a smile and warm hug; and WHEREAS, survivors include his wife; daughters, Randee Adkins Cole and Julie Adkins Martin; grandson, Eli Joseph Cole; granddaughter, Rachel Hannah Martin; sisters, Joan Lagerstram and Nonie McClure; brothers, Weldon Adkins; and Jim Adkins; many nieces and nephews; his Etowah County Courthouse family, whom he dearly loved; and his lifelong friends he made in the Navy; he was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Adkins; and brother, Billy Guy Adkins; and WHEREAS, the passing of Mr. Eli Denson Adkins leaves a void in the lives of his loving family, many friends, and the entire community, where he was highly regarded; and BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That while grieving the death of Mr. Eli Denson Adkins, we are extremely grateful for his abundant life, and we offer this resolution in highest tribute of his memory, as well as in heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.
