Relating to the City of Union Springs in Bullock County; to authorize the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption during certain hours on Sunday by properly licensed retail licensees; and to provide for a referendum.

Section 1

Subject to approval at a referendum held pursuant to Section 2, the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption after 1:00 p.m. on Sundays is authorized within the city limits of Union Springs by properly licensed retail licensees of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

Section 2

(a) The City Council of the City of Union Springs shall hold a referendum to determine if alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption may be sold after 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. The referendum shall be held at the next general election held in the city. Costs of the referendum shall be paid by the city. If a majority of the electors voting thereon vote in favor of the question, then the sale of alcoholic beverages after 1:00 p.m. on Sundays shall be authorized. A second or subsequent referendum may not be held within 12 months following a referendum that fails to be approved.

Section 3

This act shall become effective immediately following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
