SB194 Alabama 2019 Session

Under existing law, when a contract or plan of health insurance or health care services provides reimbursement or payment for services of a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), the CRNA is entitled to direct reimbursement from the insurer under certain conditions. For the purpose of this bill, a certified registered nurse anesthetist is defined to be a licensed registered nurse certified by the Council on Certification/Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.

This bill would update the definition of a certified registered nurse anesthetist for purposes of the above law to mean a licensed registered nurse certified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists or other certifying body approved by the Board of Nursing.

Relating to certified registered nurse anesthetists; to amend Section 27-46-3 of the Code of Alabama 1975, providing for direct reimbursement for the services of a certified registered nurse anesthetist by insurers, to further provide for the definition of a certified registered nurse anesthetist for the purposes of the law.
