Description

Under existing law, the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, upon request, is required to furnish the Sunset Committee with relevant information pertaining to occupational licensing agencies

This bill would authorize the department to charge an agency under review a reasonable fee for Sunset reports furnished to the Sunset Committee and would authorize the Sunset Committee to adjust or waive the fee

To amend Section 41-20-9, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the Alabama Sunset Law of 1981; to authorize the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts to charge an agency under review a reasonable fee for Sunset reports furnished to the Sunset Committee; and to authorize the Sunset Committee to adjust or waive the fee.

To amend Section 41-20-9, Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the Alabama Sunset Law of 1981; to authorize the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts to charge an agency under review a reasonable fee for Sunset reports furnished to the Sunset Committee; and to authorize the Sunset Committee to adjust or waive the fee.

Section 1

Section 41-20-9 of the Code of Alabama 1975, is amended to read as follows:

§41-20-9.

The Department of Examiners of Public Accounts, the Legislative Reference Service and the Legislative Fiscal Office of the state and the Legal and Fiscal Divisions of the Legislative Services Agency shall furnish, upon request of the reviewing and evaluating committee, any relevant information, including the results of prior audits and reviews of any agency under review. The Department of Examiners of Public Accounts may charge an agency under review a reasonable fee for preparing a Sunset report for use by the Sunset Committee. The fee may be adjusted or waived by the Sunset Committee."

Section 2

This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
