Title
Primary and runoff election date, primary election held second Tuesday in July and runoff election held second Tuesday in August for 2022 election cycle.
Description
<p class="bill_description"> Under existing law, upon receiving dicennial
census redistricting data from the U.S. Census
Bureau, the Legislature must redraw Congressional
districts and state legislative districts and pass
redistricting legislation. By federal law, the U.S</p><p class="bill_description">
Census Bureau is required to send redistricting
data to the states by April 1, 2021; however, the
U.S. Census Bureau announced that it will not be
sending this redistricting data to states until
September 30, 2021. After that date, the
Legislature must pass redistricting legislation</p><p class="bill_description">
This delayed date will affect the election cycle
for the 2022 general election</p><p class="bill_description">
Under existing law, primary elections,
except in years when there is a presidential
primary, are held on the fourth Tuesday in May and
primary runoff elections are held four weeks later</p><p class="bill_description">
This bill would provide that only during the
2022 election cycle, the primary election shall be
held on the second Tuesday in July</p><p class="bill_description">
This bill would provide for a one time
occurrence</p><p class="bill_entitled_an_act"> Relating to elections; to revise the date of the
2022 primary election and primary runoff election, and to
provide that this is a one time occurrence.
