HB206 gives the Russell County sheriff broader discretion to spend the Inmate Welfare Fund on jail needs and other lawful law enforcement purposes, effective when the act becomes law.
It amends Section 2 of Act 92-692 (1992) to allow the sheriff to spend the Inmate Welfare Fund for salaries, equipment, and supplies for the county jail, or for any other legitimate law enforcement purpose. This clarifies and broadens how the fund can be used to support jail operations and law enforcement. The act becomes effective immediately after it is passed and approved by the Governor, or otherwise becomes law.
