Description

The Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission provides qualified victims of violent crimes financial benefits for eligible expenses, including funeral costs, medical treatment, counseling, sexual assault exams, travel, and economic loss.

Under existing law, the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission meets monthly to determine the eligibility for all compensation claims above $2,000.

Under existing law, the executive director determines the eligibility for all compensation claims of $2,000 and below.

This bill would allow the executive director to determine the eligibility of all compensation claims and approve payments daily to increase efficiency and expedite payments to victims of violent crimes.

This bill would require the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Commission to meet quarterly.

This bill would require the commission hear all contested cases and authorize the commission to affirm, reverse, or modify the executive director's claim eligibility decision.
