HB299 changes who votes for the Baldwin County Board of Education by letting only residents outside municipalities with separate city school systems elect board members, and requires district redraws if a new city system is created.
It makes future Baldwin County Board of Education elections decided by qualified voters living outside municipalities that have their own city school systems. Those living inside such municipalities are not described as voters for these county elections, and current board terms continue until expiration. If a new city school system is created in Baldwin County, the board must redraw its single-member districts to reflect the new system. The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month after governor approval and works alongside existing Baldwin County education laws.
