HB480 would let mayors of Dallas County cities join the Employees' Retirement System on the same terms as other employees and buy credit for time served as mayor.
If approved, the amendment would allow Dallas County mayors to participate in the Employees' Retirement System under the same rules as other members. Mayors who are in office at ratification could purchase service credit for the time they have served. The bill also prohibits anyone from participating in both the ERS and a related supernumerary program for the same service. The change would take effect only after voter approval and ratification of the Alabama Constitution, with subsequent constitutional placement by the Code Commissioner.
