HB350 authorizes Talladega County to operate an inmate commissary at the county jail under the sheriff, with profits supporting jail operations and law enforcement.
The Talladega County Sheriff may operate and manage a commissary to sell items to inmates, and correctional officers may assist. The sheriff must keep a record of all commissary transactions for auditing by the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts. Profits from commissary sales must be used to operate and supply the county jail and for legitimate law enforcement purposes, at the sheriff's discretion. The act applies only in Talladega County and becomes effective on the first day of the third month after passage and governor approval.
