HB449 updates Macon County law to establish and empower the Macon County Economic Development Authority and allows for a successor authority to be formed under certain conditions.
It creates the Macon County Economic Development Authority to aid existing industries, coordinate local agencies, and promote new industries that create jobs. It allows the authority to incorporate or reincorporate as a Chapter 92A, Title 11 authority, with the same board members as the current board unless the new articles say otherwise. It authorizes the authority or its successor to use funds for economic development, including securing and repaying loans. It states that any new or successor authority’s powers won’t contradict or limit the Macon County EDA’s existing purposes, and the act becomes effective immediately after passage and the governor’s approval.
