HB487 would allow former and current chairs of the USS Alabama Battleship Commission to use the commission’s BB-60 distinctive license tag on their vehicles and require an annual certification of eligible individuals to the Department of Revenue, with a 2024 effective date.
It amends Section 32-6-55 to allow current and former chairs to display the USS Alabama Battleship Commission distinctive license tag (BB-60) on both official and private cars, after complying with standard registration rules and paying the usual license fees. It requires the USS Alabama Battleship Commission to annually certify to the Department of Revenue a list of eligible individuals on a form prescribed by the department, submitted at least 30 days before each registration year. It notes that the tag would bear the battleship’s call letters and include a unique identifier to be used in lieu of a regular license number. It includes nonsubstantive, technical revisions to update language to current style.
