SB202 updates Alabama's rules for disposing of dead animals, adds disease-focused burning for hogs, restricts nuisance near homes, and sets a $50 fine with an October 1, 2024 effective date.
Owners or custodians must dispose of dead animals within 24 hours by burning, burying at least two feet deep, or by other methods approved by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries. Hogs dying from cholera or any disease must be burned. Disposal cannot be done in a way that creates a nuisance near a residence. Violations are a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $50. The act takes effect on October 1, 2024.
