Democratic Alabama Supreme Court candidate AshLeigh Dunham plans three public stops in Montgomery on Wednesday, including events focused on IVF protections, voting rights, and organized labor. The visit comes as the 2026 race for Alabama Supreme Court Place 1 begins to take shape.

Madison Democrat Hanu Karlapalem has scheduled a public campaign kickoff event for April 4 as he challenges Rep. Parker Moore, R-Decatur, in Alabama House District 4. The district includes parts of Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dale Deas said he filed a federal campaign finance complaint against Republican rival Jared Hudson and Hudson’s campaign committee. The Federal Election Commission assigned the case Matter Under Review 8449 and will notify the respondents as it begins its preliminary review.

Ken McFeeters, a Republican candidate for governor from Pelham, has sued U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and the Alabama Republican Party in Covington County, arguing Tuberville does not meet Alabama’s seven-year residency requirement for governor. The case puts an early focus on how Alabama courts may handle a pre-election challenge over constitutional qualifications for statewide office.

The Alabama House has passed HB545, a bill by Rep. Norman Crow, R-Tuscaloosa, that would let in-person cash transactions be rounded to the nearest five cents. The bill would not change listed prices, sales taxes, or card payments, and a House amendment would exempt payments made to state and local government entities.

A bill filed in the Alabama House would allow the Jemison City Council to approve take-home draft beer sales by licensed retailers, including sales in growlers and kegs. House Bill 622 was referred Tuesday to the House Committee on Local Legislation.

The Alabama Senate voted 35-0 on Tuesday to approve a bill letting residents buy a digital version of their driver’s license or state ID for use on a mobile device. Because senators amended the bill, the House must vote again before it can go to Gov. Kay Ivey.

HB541 would require voters to register with a political party to participate in primaries, creating unnecessary barriers to participation in elections that are funded by taxpayers and often decide electoral outcomes.
