Bo Colley, a candidate for Valley, AL City Council District 1, extensively used the n-word on Twitter as well as other offensive words and phrases from 2014-2015. As of publication, a search of his profile for the n-word on Twitter returns 124 results. (Editor’s note: Colley has appeared to delete, make private or block us from viewing all tweets referenced in this article.) Colley also made extensive use of the F-word and used a homophobic slur towards Twitter users. Colley has unsuccessfully run for office in the past, in 2016 for the same City Council seat he is seeking today and in 2018 for Chambers County Commissioner District 6. Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Transportation on Thursday announced that $7 million in funding is being awarded to cities and counties for various local road and bridge projects. The funding is made available through the Annual Grant Program, a new program created under the Rebuild Alabama Act. The Rebuild Alabama Act requires ALDOT to establish an annual program setting aside $10 million off the top of the state’s share of new gas tax revenue for local road and bridge projects. “An investment in our roads and bridges is an investment in the future of Alabama. On Thursday, Governor Kay Ivey announced that twenty-one community service agencies in Alabama will receive $46.2 million in grants to assist low-income families by helping pay their energy bills. The grants were provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through their Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The grants were administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. “Many low-income families in Alabama are forced to weigh between staying warm in their homes or having food and prescription medicine,” Ivey said in a press release. “These grants will help many elderly, disabled and families with children not have to make those choices. Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday announced that she has awarded grants totaling more than $2.5 million to help homeless Alabamians with immediate housing assistance and to help others who are in danger of becoming homeless. The funding from the federal Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program will support organizations across the state that provide shelter, legal and health services, as well as financial education for families and individuals without a residence.
