NAMING A PORTION OF STATE ROAD 51 THE JERE L.
BEASLEY HIGHWAY.
WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that we
name that portion of State Road 51 between Midway and Clayton,
in Barbour and Bullock Counties, the Jere L. Beasley Highway;
and
WHEREAS, Jere L. Beasley opened a private practice
law firm in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1979, and 35 years later,
it is one of the country's leading firms involved in civil
litigation; the firm has offices in Montgomery and Atlanta;
and
WHEREAS, Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis, and
Miles employs over 300 people in Montgomery, including over 80
attorneys, with the mission of helping those who need it most;
and
WHEREAS, an outspoken defender of the civil justice
system, Jere Beasley is one of the leading trial lawyers in
the country and a leading advocate for those who have been
wronged; Beasley's legal victories include landmark cases that

have made a positive impact on the citizens of Alabama and the
entire United States; and
WHEREAS, an active member of St. James United
Methodist Church, Jere Beasley is involved in his community in
charitable and community events; he has served as Lieutenant
Governor of Alabama for eight years and has made a significant
impact on the profession of law, politics, governmental
affairs, and public service in the State of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting to name a road to recognize
the service, the accomplishments, and the contributions of
Jere L. Beasley to the citizens of the State of Alabama; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we do hereby name State Road
etween Midway and Clayton, in Barbour and Bullock
Counties, the Jere L. Beasley Highway and request the
appropriate officials to place and maintain signs or markers
as provided in this resolution.
