SJR 7 - Enrolled - PDF SJR7 188179-3 By Senator Chambliss RFD: Rules First Read: 09-JAN-18 SJR7 SJR7 ENROLLED, SJR7, NAMING A PORTION OF HIGHWAY 31 NORTH IN AUTAUGA COUNTY THE SERGEANT WILLIAM "TROY" SEAMON MEMORIAL HIGHWAY. WHEREAS, William "Troy" Seamon graduated from Marbury High School in 1992; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon joined the Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department October 1990 and served until he was inducted as an Honorary Life Member in 2000; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon was initiated as a Mason of the Prattville Masonic Lodge 89, August 28, 2006; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon loved politics and was a member of the Autauga County Republican Party, where he was elected and served as an Executive Committee Member; and WHEREAS, His love for radio communication led Sergeant Seamon into amateur radio; he received his Amateur Radio License December 15, 2011, with the call sign KK4CPZ, and after receiving his general license on January 4, 2012, he changed his call sign to W4ASO; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon began his career in law enforcement with the Autauga County Sheriff's Office as part of the reserve deputy program in November 1995, and he was SJR7 hired for the patrol division July 6, 1998, before graduating from the South West Alabama Police Academy, October 14, 1998; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon was transferred into Investigations and took over the Sex Offender Registration in 2006; later he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on April 19, 2011; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon facilitated the installation of new telephone and computer systems throughout the courthouse, sheriff's office, and commission building where he worked countless hours on and off duty to maintain those systems; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon facilitated the installation and maintained the updated radio systems for communication between dispatch and deputies; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Seamon was a perfectionist and wanted everything in the Sheriff's Office to look professional; he was instrumental in designing the Sheriff's Office Patch and demanded that the patch include the flag; and WHEREAS, Sergeant William "Troy" Seamon's untimely death occurred on April 4, 2016; and WHEREAS, while no action on our part can make amends to his family and friends for their loss, this special designation may ensure that he is constantly remembered with utmost gratitude; now therefore, SJR7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That in honor of Sergeant William "Troy" Seamon, we declare that a portion of U.S. Highway 31 N in Autauga County, beginning at 2251 Highway 31 North to the Liberty Baptist Church located on Highway 31 N, be named the Sergeant William "Troy" Seamon Memorial Highway. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the appropriate officials be requested to place and maintain signs or markers as provided in this resolution.
