SR79 192065-1 By Senator Sanders RFD: First Read: 22-FEB-18 192065-1:n:02/21/2018:FC/th LSA2018-998 RECOGNIZING INTERNATIONAL PAPER COMPANY ON ITS INVESTMENT IN ITS RIVERDALE MILL IN DALLAS COUNTY. WHEREAS, International Paper Company has announced additional investment in its Riverdale Mill in Dallas County of over $500 million; and WHEREAS, International Paper is making the largest industrial investment in Dallas County in many years; solidifying the presence of International Paper in Historic Selma and Dallas County; and WHEREAS, International Paper employs over 750 employees at Riverdale Mill and affects numerous indirect jobs in the region; and WHEREAS, International Paper's investment is a part of a strategic plan to expand its industrial packaging business, which is experiencing a boom due to surging commerce; and WHEREAS, International Paper's expansion is a true public-private partnership supported by abatements of non-educational property and sales and use taxes; and WHEREAS, International Paper has always prided itself on its position as an important member of the Historic Selma and Dallas County Community, and the surrounding areas; and BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That International Paper Company is commended on its investment in the Riverdale Mill in Dallas County and urged to use the latest and best technologies to control the odor and air quality of this historic area and the quality of life of the citizens of the area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be made available for appropriate presentation.
