The bill abolishes the Alabama Legacy for Environmental Research Trust and redirects its funds to the Department of Public Health for the Bureau of Environmental Services.
It repeals the requirement to transfer $500,000 each year from hazardous waste disposal fees into the Environmental Research Trust for use by public colleges. Any existing money in the trust would revert to the Department of Public Health to support the Bureau of Environmental Services. In short, funding earmarked for environmental research at public colleges would be eliminated and moved to a state health department program.
