COMMENDING THE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYERS ALUMNI
ASSOCIATION ON THE OCCASION OF ITS SECOND ANNUAL OLAN
CUNNINGHAM BASEBALL CAMP.
WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations
are herein proudly presented to the Major League Baseball
Players Alumni Association on the occasion of its Second
Annual Olan Cunningham Baseball Camp in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the "Legends for Youth" are coming to the
City of Russellville through the organized efforts of former
Kansas City Royals pitcher Randy McGilberry and Representative
Johnny Mack Morrow, and will be held on September 29, 2018;
and
WHEREAS, the "Legends for Youth" program creates an
opportunity for boys and girls age six through high school,
who otherwise would not be able to attend a baseball camp and
continues to build up youth and high school baseball programs;
and
WHEREAS, the program began in 1996, and the major
league alumni held more than 150 clinics for more than 16,500
children; and
WHEREAS, according to "Legends for Youth," its
three-fold mission is to provide a fun, positive baseball
experience; to provide children with positive role models at
our life skills station, where campers are informed about
substance abuse, the importance of education and making wise
life choices; and to teach the game's fundamentals in a
multi-station format; and
WHEREAS, a typical clinic consists of 150 kids with
seven or eight coaches; campers receive instruction on base
running, throwing, outfield play, hitting, bunting, pitching,
infield, catching, and life skills; an autograph session takes
place at the end of the clinic; and
WHEREAS, additional support will be provided by Phil
Holmes, Director, Governor's Commission on Physical Fitness
and Sports; Rosalyn Fabianke, Board Chair, Governor's
Commission on Physical Fitness and Sports; Heath Grimes,
Superintendent, Russellville City Schools; Chris Heaps, Head
Baseball Coach, Russellville and his staff; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the Major League Baseball
Players Alumni Association is highly honored and commended,
and this resolution is offered in deepest admiration and
appreciation, along with sincere best wishes for all future
endeavors.
